Carbon Neutral Merchandise. Built Into Every Order.

Offering the most sustainable merchandise on the market simply wasn’t enough for us. Since 2024, we’ve been Carbon Neutral verified by the Control Union to prove we’re more than just talk.

At Project Merchandise, we believe every order should do more than promote a brand.

That’s why we built our Climate Pledge into the way we work. Not as an add-on, not as an offset you pay extra for, but as something that happens automatically with every order you place.

For every £1,000 spent per order, we:

Fund the removal of 4.5kg of waste from our oceans (roughly 470 plastic bottles) with 4ocean PBC

Offset 0.5 tonnes of CO₂ through verified climate projects with Ecologi

That means your branded merchandise is contributing to environmental action. Not just neutrally. Actively.

What Carbon Neutral Merchandise Actually Means

Every product has a footprint – through the raw materials sourcing, the manufacturing, branding, and eventual packaging and shipping across the world. Emissions are unfortunately unavoidable.

Carbon neutrality is when the amount of CO2 emissions produced are balanced by an equivalent amount being removed from the atmosphere, usually by offsets.

To get Carbon Neutral certified, however, you must:

Collect the data of the emissions produced in Scopes 1, 2, and 3, independently verified by a carbon measurement company.

Balance the total emissions produced with emissions removed with verified schemes.

Have a documented plan for year-on-year emission reductions, complete with measurable goals and target dates.

Submit your findings, methodology, and justification to the Control Union.

Defend your report to their auditor.

If you’ve done the work and proved it, you’ll receive your ISO 14068 certification.

But the work doesn’t stop there. As the year progresses, active measures must be taken to meet those reduction targets.

For Project Merchandise, that involves the typical reductions any business can make – using public transport where possible, using green energy, reducing our waste – but it also takes the form of ensuring the products we offer are carefully considered, taking into account their carbon footprint, and strategically partnering with suppliers who not only say they care as much as we do, but are taking active measures to prove it.

When we first achieved this certification in 2024, we were able to show a substantial 14.7% reduction in emissions intensity across all scopes from the 2022-23 to the 2023-24 period, well ahead of our 5% target. For the 2024-25 period, we achieved a further 3.7% reduction, falling slightly short of our 5% target.

As we continue to reduce our emissions, achieving a further 5% year-on-year reduction naturally becomes more challenging, simply because there is less left to reduce. This means that while our target may be adjusted in the coming years to ensure it remains both realistic and meaningful, our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint as far as possible, and continuing to make measurable progress wherever we can will remain unchanged.

You can see the full picture of how we weave sustainability into everything we do on our Sustainability page and B Corp certification page.

Choosing Better Products

Offsetting what you can’t avoid is important. But reducing emissions at source is even more so. That’s why we prioritise products made from recycled materials, organic fabrics and responsibly sourced components, so your merch starts the journey with a smaller footprint.
