Background

Ecotricity approached us looking for a smarter way to gift merchandise to their B2B team network.

They wanted flexibility, a range of quality garments, different colour options, and most importantly, a system that avoided overproduction and waste.

Rather than selecting one standard item and hoping it suited everyone, they wanted to give people the freedom to choose.

The Challenge

Apparel gifting can quickly lead to excess stock: wrong sizes, unwanted colours, and surplus items that never leave the cupboard.

Ecotricity wanted to avoid that entirely by:

  • Offering a curated range of garments
  • Allowing individuals to choose up to two items from that range
  • Providing all colour options
  • Ensuring production matched the actual demand
  • Keeping the process simple for the internal team

The solution also needed to align with Ecotricity’s sustainability values.

The Solution

We created a dedicated Gifting Hub that allowed recipients to log in and select their preferred items.

The available options included:

Each garment was offered in a range of colours, giving recipients real choice while keeping the overall collection cohesive.

Recipients could select up to two items, ensuring the gift felt generous without becoming excessive.

Designed to Reduce Waste and Friction

A key part of the approach was the order window.

Rather than producing items in advance, we set a defined ordering period. This allowed us to collate all selections before going into production, meaning:

  • No surplus stock
  • No unwanted sizes
  • No guesswork
  • Economies of scale across the full order

To make internal distribution effortless, we also added each recipient’s name to the bag of their chosen garments, so that once deliveries arrived, items could be handed out quickly without sorting or confusion.

Small detail. Big difference.

The Impact

The Gifting Hub gave Ecotricity exactly what they wanted.

  • Recipients chose items they genuinely wanted
  • Apparel was produced based on actual orders
  • Waste was minimised
  • Internal admin was reduced
  • Distribution was simple and clearly organised

At Ecotricity Business, sustainability is at the core of everything we do, so it’s essential that the products we use reflect our environmental values. That’s why Project Merchandise are our go-to for sustainable merchandise. With every order, they provide clear insight into how our choices are positively impacting the environment, which aligns perfectly with our mission. The quality of the items is consistently excellent and always well received. Most recently, we equipped our B2B customer-facing teams with two items each, allowing them to represent Ecotricity Business with pride while reinforcing our commitment to sustainable practices—and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Takeaway

When apparel is produced to match real demand, everybody wins.

Choice increases engagement. Order windows reduce waste. And small operational details can make a big difference to internal teams.

For brands looking to reduce unnecessary production and admin, this model just makes sense.
