Case Study: Crafting Pint-Scented Brewdog Merch for Beer Loving Mums

Eco-friendly branded merchandise for a positive brand impact

We’re delving into our latest merch collaboration with Brewdog, the Scottish craft brewery renowned for its bold flavours and rebellious spirit. Our mission? To create a unique Mother’s Day merch bundle that celebrated the unconventional mums who embrace a touch of punk in their wellness routine.

Brewdog: Beer with Bite

Founded in 2007, Brewdog has carved a niche for itself in the world of craft beer. Their beers are known for their distinctive flavours, high quality ingredients, and a touch of in-your-face attitude. From the ever-popular Punk IPA to its limited-edition collaborations, Brewdog pushes boundaries and defies expectations, just like the mums we collaborated to gift this Mother’s Day.

Capturing the Essence of Elvis Juice

The heroes of this Brewdog merch bundle were the perfect embodiment of the brand’s spirit: a fragranced candle and soap bar inspired by their iconic “Elvis Juice” IPA. This grapefruit-infused beer boasts a citrusy aroma with a hint of tropical fruit. To translate this unique scent profile into home fragrance products, Project Merchandise embarked on a meticulous scientific journey.

The Science of Scent: From Beer Can to Bath Time

Replicating a specific beverage’s aroma into a pleasant and long-lasting fragrance requires a deep understanding of both the product and the science of scent. Our team “analysed” a can of Elvis Juice and meticulously assessed its fragrance profile. This involved identifying the dominant and subtle notes, the interplay between citrus and other elements, to ensure the final product wouldn’t smell artificial or overpowering.

Crafting the perfect fragrance oil meant balancing various considerations. Different essential and fragrance oils are used in candles and soaps, with varying properties and interactions. Our team meticulously tested multiple combinations to achieve a scent that accurately reflected Elvis Juice while remaining pleasant and well-suited for both a burning candle and a lathering soap.

Keeping it Local

Aligning with Brewdog’s commitment to sustainability, both merch items were proudly made in the UK. The candle itself was crafted using natural soy wax, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly element to the merch bundle.

Elevated Packaging: The Finishing Touch

For retail-ready merch, presentation is paramount. We understood that the packaging needed to reflect the quality and uniqueness of the Elvis Juice inspired bundle. A standard cardboard box wouldn’t do.

The candle found its home in a sturdy kraft tube, featuring the iconic Elvis Juice logo emblazoned in full colour on the side. This not only protected the candle but also offered a tactile unboxing experience. The soap, for its part, was encased in a reusable aluminium tin, ensuring freshness while maintaining a sleek and stylish aesthetic. The tin proudly displayed the Elvis Juice logo on its top, creating a cohesive brand experience.

The Perfect Pint-Scented Merch

Brewdog’s Elvis Juice inspired merch bundle proved to be a hit with the brand’s target audience. Released on their merch store, it offered a unique and memorable gifting option for mums who wouldn’t settle for a standard bouquet of flowers.

I’m so glad we chose Project Merchandise to work on this project for us. Our goal was to develop a gifting product that appealed to a different audience but still stayed true to our brand values and that is exactly what they helped us achieve. We’ve already started planning our next project and can’t wait to see it come to life!
