Eco-friendly branded merchandise for a positive brand impact

Bringing two merchandise projects together to help a trailblazing B Corp celebrate their newly obtained certification and build welcome packs for new employees

Delivering two concurrent merchandise packs with promotional products that communicated the values of a new B Corp and were also suitable for ongoing new starter onboarding packs.

About the Project

Kin + Carta is a global digital transformation consultancy. Leveraging over 2,000 highly specialised technologists, strategists, and creatives across four continents, they make the journey to becoming a digital business tangible, sustainable, and profitable. 

With the purpose of building a world that works better for everyone, Kin + Carta recently became the first publicly-traded business listed on the London Stock Exchange to achieve B Corp certification as a PLC. 

Alongside us at Project Merchandise, this certification means Kin + Carta meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and accountability. A perfect match!

We began talking merch with Kin + Carta shortly after they became B Corp certified. Looking to mark the occasion with their internal teams, they sought our help to build an exciting pack of promotional products to help employees feel part of the celebration.

We also took on the task of creating welcome packs for to new team members during their induction period, in a separate project.

How it Worked

Having looked through our collection, Kin + Carta were already quite clear on the types of product they were looking for, but also asked us to provide tailored advice based on the brief and recipients of the two packs. 

As a B Corp, sustainability was the most important consideration for the merch, so using our signature consultative approach, we helped them to select a range of eco-friendly promotional items. With drinkware, clothing, and corporate stationery all getting the nod, we were able to provide excellent options to communicate the company’s values.

After we presented options, the decision was made to combine the projects into one larger order with the stock being used for both projects, helping to bring costs down in the process.

B-eautiful Branded Merch

The first product in the ‘B-Day’ celebration pack was Stanley/Stella’s Drummer hoodie. Crafted from super soft organic cotton blended (85%) blended with recycled polyester, this hoodie is PeTA approved vegan, and certified to meet the Global Recycled Standard.

The organic material also meets GOTS and the OCS 100 Organic Content Standard certifications. We embroidered the hoodie with the company logo, which sits handsomely on the left breast. 

Our Impact Aware backpack has an anti-theft construction, created using the equivalent of 20 recycled plastic bottles, guaranteed thanks to Aware, a physical tracer blended into the fabric and registered on the blockchain. 

Two notebooks were offered in the pack, firstly the A5 Cork, a beautifully tactile notebook with a soft cork and kraft cover. Its pages are also made from recycled kraft paper, with a natural, brown hue.

The second notebook, the Lamberhurst A5 is, quite remarkably, bound in a cover made from recycled safety glass. This material is broken down and reformed into PU sheets, that make a great cover for notebooks.

Our Bio Grow Pouch completed the B-Day pack, the handy starter kit for growing your own bee friendly flowers came branded with a full colour sticker.

Moving on to the new starter packs, we included one extra item to make for a big, warm welcome. The Oyster insulated tumbler, selected in both black and white, was engraved with the Kin + Carta logo, which sits proudly alongside the B Corp certification.

The respective gift packs were finished with a printed note, before being printed in a branded Kin + Carta cardboard box.

Corporate Gifting Made Easy

So why two notebooks and two tumblers? Well, to make things interesting for the recipient, Kin + Carta opted to allow a few choices meaning everyone could tailor their pack to their needs. The structure of our Gifting Hub was crucial as a major concern of Kin + Carta was the creation of waste due to sending everyone the full pack automatically. Every item had an option to opt out entirely which not only saved products from being binned but also meant that additional stock could be used for future events.

This digital gifting platform also enables recipients to enter their own delivery details, taking the hassle out and data protection concerns out of hybrid work gifting promotions, with delivery to individual addresses now often essential for gifting campaigns.

An Ongoing Gifting Solution 

With our Gifting Hub still live, we continue to support Kin + Carta with their employee welcome packs. The nature of the project means that individual packs are called off as new starters arrive at the company, so in addition to dispatching as required, we manage the inventory.

So that stock levels can be replenished, we share updates on a regular basis. This guarantees delivery within the induction period, ensuring that the project remains an ongoing success.
